ABOUT US

History

In the heart of Portugal’s wine-producing region of Ribatejo, the estate of Pinhal da Torre was always well known for crafting wines of quality and elegance, and is now receiving acclaim and rave reviews from wine critics world-wide.

Owned by the Saturnino Cunha family, Pinhal da Torre combines the knowledge and experience gained through generations dedicated to the vine to provide today’s consumer with many special and memorable wines.
Cultivating traditional Portuguese varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Trincadeira, Castelão (Periquita), Arinto and Fernão Pires, along side non-native varieties like Syrah,

Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, Pinhal da Torre blends tradition with innovation to create wines from the Ribatejo region that are distinguished and distinct in character.

The town of Alpiarça (located in the center of Ribatejo) is where Pinhal da Torre farms its two adjoining properties: Quinta do Alqueve, occupying an area of 36 hectares, and Quinta São João, with 22 hectares.

Wines from both properties are crafted and kept at Quinta São João, in a historic wine cellar that was built in 1947.

This old cellar is being redesigned by the famous architect Isay Weinfeld, who is transforming this singular space to include a restaurante, a wine store and a tastings room.
